Demand and Importance of Education
There has never been a better time to teach English in China. The economy is becoming increasingly internationalized. And Chinese students learning English from an early age in order to compete on a global stage. The number of English speakers and learners in China are staggering. There will not be any shortage of English teaching jobs in China anytime soon.
Public vs Private Schools
The first thing you probably focus on is the high salaries offered to English teachers in China. The higher-end is usually paid in private language centers in big cities e.g. Beijing and Shanghai. Only later, when you’re teaching English, you realize that private schools require a lot of hours (teaching and office) as well as irregular hours (weekends). At first glance, it looks as if public schools pay less but in fact, the pay per hour is the same if not better with fewer and regular hours.
